PE & Sports Premium
PE and sports are an important part in the life of George Spicer primary school and at least two hours per week are dedicated to physical activity in the curriculum. We believe that physical education and sport contribute to the holistic development of young people and through participation in sport and physical education, young people learn more about key values such as teamwork, fair play and respect for themselves and others.
In April 2013, the Departments for Education, Health, and Culture, Media and sport announced joint new funding of £150 million to support the delivery of PE and school sport. Funding is allocated to all state-maintained secondary, primary, middle and special schools (including non-maintained special schools), academies and pupil referral units with primary aged pupils.
We are using the Sport Premium to improve the quality of PE and Sport provision in the following ways:
- Providing cover staff to release teachers for professional development in PE and sport.
- Procuring quality-assured professional training for staff to raise their confidence and competence in teaching PE and sport through the Enfield Sport School Sports partnership
- Supporting Lunchtime supervisors to introduce new playground games at breaks and lunchtimes.
- Using the funding to support regular sport tournaments, festivals and competitions for pupils for all ages.
- Entering children into different leagues and competitions organised by the Enfield P.E Team.
- Introducing new ICT equipment for use in P.E top allow children the opportunity to evaluate their own skills as well as the skills of their peers. Investment in the use of ICT in lessons will also aid teacher assessment and development of children during P.E lessons.
- Hiring professional sports coaches to teach the children different sports during curriculum time.
