Reception
Christmas Jumper Day, Creative calendars and card writing, and learning to subitise to 5.
This week has been a busy week. The children really enjoyed seeing the Christmas Jumpers. They spoke about the colours they could see and all the shapes they could identify on each other's jumpers. The children have also been putting their phonics skills to the test, writing their cards and creating their calendar pictures. They have also been recognising groups up to 5. "Say it, don't count it." After being shown a group of objects up to 5, the children tried to say the amount without counting it. They did check the amount afterwards to see if they were right. Well done to all the Reception children for their effort in their learning.

Year 1
Last week, the children in Year 1 learnt the names and properties of 2D and 3D shapes, and this week, to extend their learning, they have been creating repetitive patterns with 2D and 3D shapes.
D said "I say the shapes to know what comes next."

Year 3
Year 3: Writing
This half term, Year 3 have been using the book BFG by Roald Dahl to inspire our writing. We have written wanted posters, gruesome recipes, a diary entry as Sophie and even wrote our own chapter on how the Queen could capture the giants.
This week we wrote a letter to the BFG, telling him our favourite parts of the story. Here are some of our favourite parts:
"My favourite part was when the Giants used the BFG like a football as that was funny!"
"I loved when they talked about Whizzpopping! Now we call farts in Snowdon class whizzpops!"
"My favourite part was when Sophie visited the Queen!"

Year 4
This week in PSHE, we learnt about the importance of being safe online. We were reminded to not reply to messages that upset you and always show or tell an adult that you trust. Always be with an adult when you are using the internet. Remember, you should never give personal or private details online to anyone. We looked at a scenario and discussed what we can do to help the child in the story.
If someone is not being kind to a friend, remember to follow the below steps:

Year 5
The weather in Year 5 has been rather 'stormy' this week as we experienced The Tempest on Monday morning. To immerse the children into our new writing topic 'The Tempest' by William Shakespeare, the year group headed out onto the Tyrrhenian Sea and faced an almighty storm - they experienced thunder, lightning, sea-sickness and panic-stricken crew mates. Having survived the storm, the children were able to recount their adventurous experience by creating sentences based on their senses, as well as powerful verbs and adjectives to add to our working walls. The ambitious vocabulary and creative noun phrases were highly impressive!
On Thursday of this week, we were treated to a wonderful RW excursion to a Cem-Evi in Turnpike Lane. The whole experience was incredible as we
were able to listen to an expert who told us all about the '12 servants'. We were also lucky to hear the Baglama Saz being played live in front of us as well as take part in a Semah (holy dance). The children were respectful throughout - a credit to the school!

Year 6
Year 6's Science lessons continue to explore the themes of evolution and inheritance. This week the children were learning about how animals adapt over time to suit their environment. They explored how this can lead to evolution with very small changes in the physical and behavioural qualities, which mean that they can survive better in order to reproduce. In an active lesson, the children explored and discussed Charles Darwin and his theories. They also looked at how we, as humans, have evolved over many millions of years to be able to successfully live in our world. Their lesson activity was to analyse and scale the evolution of the blue whale. Some of their work is shown.

Two weeks ago, the esteemed author of The World Between The Rain, Susan Cahill, challenged year 5 and 6 children to write the opening of a ‘portal story’, which is similar to the book's theme.
Mr Rasheed and Susan Cahill read all of the entries and awarded 3 children with certificates for their pieces. All of the children should be very proud of their writing!
