The Big Pedal
The Big Pedal is a national event where schools up and down the country will be encouraging pupils to cycle to school and takes place the week of the 26th April. If your child has a bike or scooter and would like to be given the opportunity to ride it on the school playground then please bring it to school on their allocated year group day.
**************NO electric scooters please *************
MONDAY 26th: Years 1 & 3
TUESDAY 27th: Years 2 & 4
WEDNESDAY 28th: Year 5
THURSDAY 29th: Year 6
Reception: Primrose -Monday, Daffodil - Tuesday, Bluebell - Wednesday, Snowdrop - Thursday
In order for your child to participate, please make sure:
1)your child wears a correctly fitting helmet which they are able to put on and remove themselves
2) the bike or scooter must be in good working order.
3) your child must be able to ride independently
Please make sure helmets and bikes/scooters are named. For Health and Safety, if your child does not have a helmet they will NOT be allowed to take part.
Your child should take their bike or scooter to the bike and scooter racks on the big playground and put them wherever there is space. Staff will be on hand to support children. Helmets can be stored on the handlebars or hung on their peg.
We understand that security may be a concern for some parents, especially at Sketty Road. On their allocated day, the children will be allowed access to the bike racks 5 minutes before the main gates open. In future weeks, we would recommend your child secures their bike or scooter with a lock.
Wish you could cycle every day and not just on your year group day? Don't forget our Sketty Road School Streets is an ideal space for a bit of extra cycling or scootering before and after school. Please be mindful of pedestrians and remember to wear a helmet! We are also very lucky to have two large flat parks on our doorstep. Perfect for safe cycling before and after school.
