End of Term Message
The first term of the school year is always a very busy one (Especially when it snows in the final week!). However, there is always lots to celebrate, and the end of the term provides a good opportunity to reflect on, and recognise, all of the achievements and hard work. I hope you have enjoyed reading about everything going on in the newsletters.
This week, the focus of my assemblies has been around the Christmas Tree – the most special symbol of the festive period to me. I left the children with these excellent bits of advice we can gain from Christmas Trees: Be a light in the darkness; We all fall down sometimes; Sparkle and twinkle as often as possible; It’s ok to be a little wonky and different; Bring joy to others. I reminded them that it is not what is under the tree (presents) that matters most, it is who is gathered around it (presence).
I want to wish you and your family a peaceful, restful, safe and enjoyable time over the festive holiday period. Staff have a training day on Tuesday 3rd January 2023. The first day back for pupils will be Wednesday 4th January and they should attend at normal time. See you in the New Year.
Many thanks for your continued support.

Food Support in Enfield
Food Pantries - If you are finding your money does not stretch far enough and you are struggling to afford the cost of food, a food pantry can provide you with a heavily discounted food shop. To receive support from a food pantry you will pay a weekly membership fee (between £3.50 and £4.50), which will allow you to shop at the pantry each week. Pantries look similar to shops and you are able to select a certain amount of food based on your own food preferences. Please click on the link below for the locations of the food pantries in Enfield:

Rainbow Class
In Rainbow Class we have been looking at the similarities and differences within our group. To help us with this topic, we did an activity about the things ‘We like and the things we don’t like’ and how our opinions are similar to or different from our peers.
We also paid particular attention to our listening and attention skills, while doing this activity. We discovered that some of us like the same things and that one person can like something, whilst another person may not. We also found out that sometimes, we can all like the same thing like.
We all agreed that we all had a similar love of Ice cream but alas we all had a difference of opinion on which is the best flavour!

Reception Class
This week Reception have been enjoying exploring the snow! We were very excited by this new experience and were keen to tell our adults in class all about our snow day. We made Snowmen at home and went on plenty of winter walks with our home adults. We were super sensible coming through the playground in the morning and enjoyed activities in the classroom all about the snow. We experimented with the snow, seeing how it changed with the temperature. 'I liked feeling the crunch of the snow under my wellies' said Thea. 'I made a snowman in the park' said Ellie.

Year 1
This week in Year 1 we have been looking at using the conjunction 'but' to extend our sentences. We learnt that to use 'but' correctly you have to oppose something in your sentence. We looked at different pictures and used them as a stimulus to write some interesting sentences.
Last week we learnt that animals can be classified into groups based on their eating habits. These groups are called herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We looked at different types of animals and learnt about the features of each group. We then worked in groups to sort pictures of animals into a Venn diagram to identify carnivores, omnivores and herbivores.

Year 2
This week we have been fortunate enough to have the Happy Puzzle Company visit Year 2. The workshop allowed pupils to explore a range of different problem solving activities. They all demonstrated great teamwork, and the puzzles helped the children to build resilience and develop their critical thinking skills. Beth (the company representative) was very impressed with the pupils skill and ‘can do’ attitude’ she saw while working with different groups from across the different classes. Well done year 2!
A big thanks also to Carolyn who came in again to teach the children all about Hanukkah. It was fascinating and the children asked some great questions.

Year 3
This week in English, Y3 have been writing an instruction text on how to wrap a Christmas present. We first discussed the equipment needed to wrap a present. The children then watched an example of how a Christmas present is wrapped slowly and neatly. We then made a list of the steps required from start to finish. Y3 were then handed the necessary equipment and were tasked with wrapping their own present with their table partners. The writing that followed explained what they intended to do and the process they took. Y3 focused on using imperative verbs, when adverbials and conjunctions to successfully write their instruction text.

Year 4
This have term children have been learning to tell a story through dance. The pupils used the true story of Juliane Koepcke to create their story dance pieces by breaking the story down into three parts, waiting in the airport, experiencing a plane crash and surviving the experience.
The children worked in paris to explore and experiment with different moves to tell the story and practised their skills of matching their moves to music.

Year 5
Mongolian nomads
Last week, Year 5 met (via Teams) Ian, who travelled to Mongolia to see their nomadic way of life! In our Geography unit this term, The Realm of the Khan, we have been looking at the environment of Mongolia and how the steppe is a harsh terrain, one where over 1/3 of Mongolian people choose to live and adopt a nomadic lifestyle. The children asked Ian many questions about the challenges he and the Mongolian people faced, as well as what he took from his adventures in the steppe!
DT - Cams!
This week, Year 5 worked in groups to produce cams! A cam is a device which can has a rotary motion into linear motion (movement in a straight line). A cam is a specially shaped piece of material, usually metal or hard wearing plastic, which is fixed to a rotating shaft. The children worked hard to saw different pieces of wood at different lengths, creating the cam. Using glue guns (with adult supervision!) the children glued the pieces together, ensuring that their cam had a slight angle in order for it to move slowly. Check our Twitter on Friday to see out finished designs!
On behalf of the Year 5 team, I (Miss Dawson) would all like to say how proud we are of Year 5 this term and the huge amount of curiosity, creativity and enthusiasm that they have shown this term in their learning. We wish you and your families a relaxing, restful and enjoyable Christmas break!

Year 6
DT - Winter Decorations
This week, Year 6 started a DT project to design and create their own winter decorations. We began by looking at what makes a successful Christmas/Winter decoration and wrote our own success criteria. We decided that all decorations should have a ribbon, be colourful and based around a character.
From there, we practised our sewing skills. We tried the running stitch, back stitch, cross stitch and some of us even managed to use the tricky blanket stitch.
Once we had a chance to practice stitches, we designed and refined our designs for our own decorations; thinking carefully about what stitch we would use and where.
Now we had to begin the creating. Using a template, we cut out our felt designs and began to sew them together.
Look at some of our wonderful creations below:
